Captain Rich Abele, 4th generation naval officer, shows displays his fathers picture. The Commander's Cabin is a memorial to Rich's father, who was a Navy Captain, having served in Guadalcanal and Philippines campaigns. The brass plaque outside the cabin is affixed to the bulkhead in perpetuity. This stateroom will be “The Abele Stateroom” as long as the IOWA remains afloat as a museum ship. All the uniforms and other memorabilia in the stateroom are from 1945.
