This "drum" that marks the Church family gravesite was once a part of the columns that stood at the front of the old St. Clair County Court House in Belleville. County historians, including Leon Church, tried unsuccessfully to block demolition of the old court house, and only a few portions of it, such as this part of a column, were preserved. The old court house was built in 1861 and destroyed in 1972.
